The Silent Killer among the Malaysians

According to the recent Globocan report in 2022, 13.8% of new cancer cases in Malaysia are colorectal cancer, reflecting an increase from the year 2020. Meanwhile, it remains the second most common cancer among Malaysian men and women.

Colorectal cancer often shows no symptoms at its early stages. A colonoscopy can help detect it early by identifying abnormalities such as polyps. Polyps are generally harmless but some may become cancerous over time. Removing polyps during a colonoscopy procedure can reduce the risk of them developing into cancer. It is not clear why colorectal cancer develops in certain people but not others. However, the chance to cure is high if it is detected during its early stage.

Colonoscopy is a safe and minimally invasive procedure that shows the whole length of the large intestine, including the rectum. A thin, flexible tube with a camera and light is gently inserted through the anus into the large intestine to examine the rectum and entire colon, allowing doctors to visualise and document your conditions for better preventive care and accurate diagnosis.

Beacon Hospital is now offering a subsidised colonoscopy package starting from RM1,299 to raise awareness of the importance of early detection of colorectal cancer. Contact us today to schedule your appointment before it is too late.
