“Women are notoriously slower to report symptoms, so it is critical that we speak up for ourselves. It’s crucial to discuss symptoms with the doctor if they don’t feel right because doing so could result in an earlier diagnosis and better treatment,” said Dr. Bheena, Consultant Gynaecologist.
Gynaecological cancer affects the entire female reproductive system and poses a significant health risk, particularly in Malaysia, where it ranks among the top cancers with high mortality rates. Prevention and early detection are vital, primarily through routine screenings like Pap smears and HPV testing. Dr. Bheena emphasises the importance of HPV vaccination and regular screenings to reduce cervical cancer risk as well as the importance of women advocating for their health and discussing any concerning symptoms with their doctors.
