What Is Mammogram Screening?Mammography is one of the X-ray methods used for breast cancer examination. It is used as a tool to diagnose breast disease or cancer in women who have breast lumps, pain or symptoms which were discovered by self-examination or clinically. Mammograms can also be used as a screening examination to look for cancer in women who have no signs or symptoms of the disease. In Malaysia, it is recommended to perform a mammogram once every two years for women aged 40 – 74 years. |
Mammogram In Beacon HospitalBeacon Hospital is equipped with a digital mammography system with an option for additional digital tomosynthesis that creates 2D and 3D images of the breasts to rule out tissue overlap and enhance the contrast of masses, hence better quality results. The system uses Tungsten technology to significantly reduce radiation dose to examine even dense breasts and individualise the breast density and thickness of the patient.Beacon Hospital extends its impact beyond healthcare through our CSR programme. To date, this programme has already channelled more than RM63 million in financial aid to help ease the burden faced by many cancer patients in Malaysia. |

Leading Breast Cancer Treatment In Malaysia
Beacon Hospital is one the leading oncology centre, especially in breast cancer scan and treatment, in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor. From diagnosis to treatment and after-care, we work with our patients every step of the way, providing support and guidance for women and men.
Treatment options for breast cancer are usually discussed with a breast surgeon or an oncologist (cancer specialist). Breast cancer can be treated in a few ways. It depends on the type of breast cancer and how far it has spread. Individuals with breast cancer often get more than one type of treatment. Among the treatments for breast cancer are:
01 | 1-week Radiotherapy
a newly discovered and more effective treatment for early-stage breast cancer by shortening the course of radiotherapy which normally takes 3 weeks to 1 week.
02 | Radiotherapy
is often combined with breast surgery, to enhance treatment. It uses high doses of radiation to kill cancer cells. Radiotherapy can reduce the risk of local recurrence.
03 | Chemotherapy
is a treatment option that involves the use of chemo medication. Such as Alkylating agents, Topoisomerase inhibitors, Antitumor antibiotics, Antimetabolites, Mitotic inhibitors, and Corticosteroids
04 | Breast Surgery
A surgery in which only the part of the breast containing the cancer is removed
05 | Targeted therapy
medication for breast cancer works by attaching itself to proteins such as HER2 protein.
06 | Hormone Therapy
is used to slow down or stop the growth of hormone-sensitive tumours in the breast.
